Sculpture Care and restoration program

The Alliance is proud to announce a new citywide Sculpture Care & Restoration Program in partnership with the City of Jersey City. With a dedicated 2024/ 2025 budget of $100,000, this initiative marks the beginning of a multi-year effort to preserve some of our most treasured public monuments.

We’ve teamed up with renowned conservator Jakki Godfrey of Boro 6 Art Conservation, a leader in art restoration and historic preservation. Jakki brings over two decades of expertise caring for fine art, archaeological objects, and public monuments. A graduate of the prestigious Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation (WUDPAC), she served as Objects Conservator at the Brooklyn Museum for 14 years before founding Boro 6.

This program will address the care and restoration of several iconic monuments across Jersey City, including:

Each site holds deep historical and cultural meaning, and our goal is to ensure these tributes to service and sacrifice are preserved with the care and dignity they deserve.

This 2–3 year capital project represents the first coordinated conservation effort of its kind in Jersey City and reinforces the The Alliance’s commitment to honoring our shared history through thoughtful public stewardship.

The ICE House Creative Center

The Ice House Creative Center, located at 335 Washington Street in downtown Jersey City, is set to become a vibrant hub for artistic expression and innovation. Situated in a historic industrial building, this dynamic space will blend creativity, collaboration, and community.

Architectural plans for this project include four flexible spaces—two measuring 2,000 square feet and two at 1,500 square feet—designed to accommodate a variety of artistic and community activities. Additionally, the building will feature a large rooftop deck, offering an open-air venue for events and gatherings.

The Alliance's mission is to enhance the neighborhood through public art, infrastructure improvements, and community programming. The Ice House Creative Center is a key component of our broader efforts to enrich the cultural landscape of the area.

Construction is anticipated to continue in the summer of 2025, following the approval of the Alliance's budget in June and the project is expected to be completed within 9 to 12 months.

The Ice House Creative Center will serve as a cornerstone for the arts in Jersey City, providing a dedicated space for artists, performers, and community members to create, collaborate, and connect.

Children’s Park and Community Garden

The Alliance is introducing a transformative community green space which will soon be underway at 325 Washington Street in the heart of the Powerhouse Arts District.

Designed to serve as both a neighborhood gathering point and a natural refuge, the project will feature a dedicated children’s play area and a thriving community garden—offering residents a much-needed space to connect, grow, and recharge in one of the city’s most park-deficient areas. By integrating natural elements into the urban landscape, the project will underscore our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Jersey City residents.

This development is part of the Alliance’s broader efforts to enrich the cultural and social fabric of the area, aligning with our mission to create vibrant, accessible public spaces that reflect the community's needs and aspirations.

Sculpture Program

“Puppy Love” by Will Kurtz marks the inaugural installation in The Alliance’s expanding public art program, designed to enrich Jersey City’s cultural landscape through large-scale, site-specific sculpture.

This first piece will be installed along the pedestrian plaza outside the Waldo School—between 1st and 2nd Streets in the Powerhouse Arts District—at a location we’ve affectionately named The Art Walk at 108 First Street.

Launched with a citywide call for artists and developed in collaboration with the City of Jersey City, the initiative is supported by a project budget of $50,000–$75,000. Additional installations will follow, placed strategically across the city to celebrate local identity and elevate public space.

art windows at The Public storage building

The Exchange Place Alliance, in partnership with the Powerhouse Arts District Neighborhood Association, has curated an initiative to transform three prominent windows at 133 2nd Street, Jersey City, into captivating art displays.

This project invites unique works reflecting Jersey City’s rich history, cultural diversity, and vibrant industrial heritage.

Each artwork will be seamlessly integrated into window frames, creating dynamic visual experiences for the community.
