A profile of a child’s face represents the flame of a candle. The base of the sculpture forms a stylized candle and the child's face rises from it driving out of the darkness with their light. The hard, bronze material is designed to form a light, wispy profile almost blowing the wind. The sculpture is inspired by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. quote:

"Darkness cannot drive out Darkness; only light can do that.

Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

Michael Alfano has been sculpting for over twenty years. His artwork is in galleries, museums, parks, and collections around the globe. His sculptures have been featured at international art fairs including Art NY, Art and Antiques London, SOFA Chicago, and Spectrum Miami. He has won over 70 awards, including ‘Sculptor of the Year’. Several pieces have been exhibited at special events at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Cape Cod Museum of Art. Permanent commissions include ‘The Starter’ at the Boston Marathon, several bronzes at the Boston Museum of Science, and more than two dozen public sculptures in the Northeast.
